The The nuances of laughter in “Batalhas de bilhetes”
Keywords:
laughter; humor; comic; Dalton TrevisanAbstract
Considering the complexity of delimiting the borders among the concepts of laughter, humor and comic, this paper analyzes the short story “Batalha de bilhetes”, by Dalton Trevisan. Therefore, the text is divided into two moments: in the first, some theoretical reflections by Sigmund Freud (1980), Umberto Eco (1989), Henri Bergson (2001) among others are presented; in the second, the topic of old age is discussed from these perspectives. As results, it can be seen that Dalton Trevisan uses humorous and comical content in the image construction of scenes and the body in old age. The laughter, through the irony and the caricature, for example, is at the service of deconstructing stereotypes of social institutions such as marriage, as well as contributing to reflection on issues related to human miseries, making the comic come closer to the tragic.
