An ode to paper in digital literary practices

This article discusses, from the perspective of Jacques Derrida (2004), the modeling character of paper and the permanence of its materiality as a symbolic resource for writing, even in the face of the proliferation of digital culture. The reflection is developed through the analysis of two distinct forms of contemporary literary production. The first is the novel Opisanie Swiata by Verônica Stigger, whose printed and e-book versions will be compared. The second involves several poems selected from the profiles of three Instagram poets: Zack Magiezi, Fabricio Carpinejar, and Pedro Daniel. In both forms of production under analysis, the prominence of the material use of paper in the writings produced by these authors is examined, as well as how paper represents an object for creating sensory and artistic connections, in contrast to the standardization that governs mediums and formats in the digital environment. To aid the discussion, are considered contributions from Alberto Manguel (1997), Byung-Chul Han (2022), Osvaldo Silvestre (2016), among other authors.
