Abstract

The graphics of the Wayana ethnic group are analyzed here, highlighting their role as an active agent of identity construction. Far from being merely decorative, geometric patterns reveal relationships with nature, the sacred and the ways of life of indigenous peoples. The analysis of the vasiform basket demonstrates how lines, points and shapes are articulated in visual structures that express movement, order and sacredness. The article argues that graphics are bodies in themselves — dynamic, performative — and integrate rites of passage, artisanal production and ethnic affirmation, translating a worldview where drawing is a living and transformative practice.
