Loves fountain in Poços de Caldas

Abstract

The research about the Fonte dos Amores (Fountain of Love) seeks to identify the origin and the start of the creation of this leisure space at Serra de São Domingos, in Poços de Caldas, Minas Gerais state. The Fountain of Love has a rich set of equipment carved on stones, caves excavated into rocks, interesting rock formations, besides inscriptions on the slope rocks, engraved with unidentified materials, motivations, and date. The aim of the research presented in this article is to unveil the origin, authorship and different historical moments of the constitution and implementation of this Historical Site. When presenting the various faces of this place throughout time, new elements appear and bring up hypotheses. Thus, one of the essential objectives of this research is to identify the curious rock formations of the place, what they represent, how and when they were made, and the origins of the several sculptures, inscriptions and caves excavated into the rocks. What can be affirmed is that the Historical Site configures a place where there is the manifestation of the centuries old stonework art, which stimulates us to conduct and deepen this research. It is also a site of rare beauty, where nature and humans seem to interact in a harmonious way, for immemorial times.
