ART AND LIFE IN NIETZSCHE: THE AESTHETIC SCOPE OF THE BIRTH OF TRAGEDY AND HUMAN, ALL TOO HUMAN

Abstract

Starting from the perspective of philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche in his works The Birth of Tragedy (1872) and Human, all Too Human (1878), the present work aims to analyze the relationship between art and life. Given the influence of Arthur Schopenhauer (1788 ”“ 1860) on the work of young Nietzsche, we first consider the concepts of knowledge, will, and art in the first author in order to better understand the thought of the second. Ahead, from the Nietzschean reflections, we present the flourishing and decline of art in classical Greece: we briefly emphasize the representation of philosophy and science which, in turn, took the place of art and became the starting point for an evaluation. about life as a will to power. The research has bibliographic character and investigates in the works of the mentioned philosophers the debate about the modern aesthetics, but also expands such comprehension by examining the positions of authors like Machado (1985) and Marton (2006). We demonstrate the antagonism between science and art from the Nietzschean criterion of truth, concluding that, according to the philosopher, the West needs to demystify scientific knowledge in order to recover the truth itself from myth and the art as the will to life.
