Abstract

It is necessary to develop what we could call at the moment a “nihilist comparative”, that is to say, always to have a notion of what was not developed by a work of art or a philosophical essay. The comparison of works with strategical points of similarity is a first step to it, but we need to consider to shadowy part of the work to understand its configuration, its characteristic, its quality. The “absconditus” is a part of the work, as we have a side of the Moon that we normally do not see. It
means we should allow imagination to be a part of hermeneutics.

    Possui graduação em Português Inglês Língua e Literaturas pela Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (1968), estudou Política em Ciências Sociais pela Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (1968), estudou Direito e Ciência Política pela Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (1966-68), fez mestrado em Teoria Literária - Freie Universitat Berlin (1972), que foi reconhecido como mestrado em Letras (Teoria Literária e Literatura Comparada) pela Universidade de São Paulo (1969) e fez doutorado em Letras (Teoria Literária e Literatura Comparada) pela Universidade de São Paulo (1975). É livre-docente pela PUCCAMP. Fez pós-doutorado nas universidades de Yale, Heidelberg, Berlim, Konstanz, Bonn, Frankfurt. Atualmente é professor titular de Estética na Universidade de Brasília. Tem atuado principalmente em teoria literária, literatura comparada, tradução, narrativa trivial, cânone brasileiro, mas hoje se dedica sobretudo a questões de estética, filosofia da arte, arte comparada, semiótica da cultura.
