ARQUITETURA E ESPAÇO-USO: POR UMA ABORDAGEM DESCRITIVA E INTERPRETATIVA DOS ESPAÇOS ABERTOS

Abstract

The usual idea about space on the architectural teaching concerns exclusively to space in architectural design. However, space in architecture and urbanism implies in utilization and for its analysis we employ the concept of space-use. It means people engaged in activity and social relationships into an architectural environment. We also discuss a group of variables for the space-use description and interpretation especially for the open spaces and also review two main methods for its description and understanding: the quantitative approach that deals with numeric data and statistical techniques and the qualitative approach related to hermeneutics. Our findings showed both approaches can work together, but they must be applied in different stages of the space description.
