With the epidemiological transition in Brazil, chronic diseases have become the highest number of deaths among men and women. Among the components that define the state of human health, some variables of the geographical context, as local climate and socioeconomic factors appear to influence the mortality from circulatory diseases, such as in stroke. Socioeconomic factors of the population are strongly associated with mortality. The main objective of this research is to investigate the influence of socioeconomic factors in mortality from cardiovascular diseases (stroke) in the municipality of Sao Paulo, from 2006 to 2009. We calculated the relative risks (RR) and spatial clusters in the program SatScan which were mapped in ArcGIS. The linear correlation between RR and socioeconomic variables was calculated to assess the association between variables. The per capita income had the highest correlation value (0.63); the positive value of this correlation indicates that the higher percentage of people with low per capita income increases relative risk of mortality from stroke. Spatially and statistically it was possible to observe the relationship between mortality from stroke and some socio-economic variables in the municipality of Sao Paulo.
