Digital Elevation Models (DEM) and Geographical Information Systems (GIS) analysis have been utilized for understanding geographical relationships and modeling spatial data. The GIS-derived terrain attributes allow to determinate variables, compositions and criteria on spatial patterns according to landscape organization. Geomorphometric mapping enable to represent the geomorphologic units by numerical attributes and by their spatial distribution. This paper aims at geomorphologic units mapping in the basin of the Preto River. The methodology consists of the following steps: (a) DEM elaboration from topographical maps (1:100.000 scale) in digital format; (b) morphometric maps generation (slope, flow direction and contributing area); (c) digital morphometric image processing like color compositions and manipulation of contrast; (d) histogram frequency analysis of terrain attributes; (e) definition of classes on the basis of geomorphometric criteria, slicing the domain of each attribute to related intervals; (f) unit validation by visual interpretation of Landsat image. The landscape was decomposed to five geomorphologic: Plateau (Tops, Intraplateau Valleys); Dissected Plateau (Silicatic, Karstic); Unaí Crests (Mountain Ranges, Depressions); Terraces (Upper, Lower); Alluvial Plain. It is noticeable a close relation between the relief forms and the regional geology and pedology.
