A representação do imperador Constantino I na História Nova: crítica, memória e perspectivas de Zósimo (século VI E.C.)

Resumo

O imperador Constantino I é uma figura política central na Antiguidade Tardia, período compreendido entre os séculos III e VIII E.C. Além disso, é um personagem alvo de inúmeras críticas na obra História Nova, escrita pelo historiador do sexto século Zósimo. Dessa forma, o objetivo deste trabalho é expor como Constantino I é representado nesta obra, bem como observar a maneira como o autor recorre à representação e à memória para construir a sua narrativa sobre o imperador. Para alcançar tal objetivo, apoiar-nos-emos no Livro II da História Nova e analisaremos as passagens juntamente com a descrição do contexto histórico em que se insere para entendermos as intenções de Zósimo ao representar o imperador da maneira que o fez.

Biografia do Autor

  • Jéssica da Costa Minati Moraes, Universidade Estadual Paulista

    Mestranda em História Antiga pelo Programa de Pós Graduação em História pela Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp/Franca), com financiamento da FAPESP (processo 2024/01938-7) e Visiting Master Student na University of St. Andrews entre março e julho de 2025, com financiamento da FAPESP. Graduada e licenciada em História pela Unesp/Assis. Na graduação, foi bolsista pelo Núcleo de Ensino junto ao NEAM - Núcleo de Estudos Antigos e Medievais entre 2021 e 2022. Também desenvolveu pesquisa de Iniciação Científica intitulada "O imperador Constantino sob a perspectiva de Zósimo (Séculos V-VI E.C.)", sob orientação da Profa. Dra. Margarida Maria de Carvalho e financiada pela FAPESP sob processo 2022/125572-8.
