Abstract
Este trabalho apresenta uma leitura do poema Morte do leiteiro (A rosa do povo, 1945), de Carlos Drummond de Andrade, com base no pensamento formulado pelo filósofo Herbert Marcuse no livro A dimensão estética. Não existe o intuito de usar a filosofia como uma chave de decifração e interpretação fechada para o poema. Pretende-se mostrar que existe uma grande afinidade entre a proposta de reformulação da estética marxista com base na crítica do marxismo ortodoxo, formulada por Marcuse e outros pensadores da Teoria crítica, e as produções artístico-literárias da fase madura do modernismo brasileiro, nas quais já existe uma estética nacional consolidada.
