Abstract
aced with the wave of feminist movements that fight for the conquest of human and civil rights around the globe, the question about the political dimension of the fight for equality, transits the question about the status of femininity. Herbert Marcuse recovers some moments of these struggles in his bid for the victory of Eros over Thanatos and invites us to a rigorous review of what the political struggle for equality has implied, in cultural terms, in the social form of contemporary capitalism.
In these lines we seek to meet that invitation by reviewing the emancipatory potential of images of femininity in culture and tracing the limits - scope of the criticism of the repressive equality that the author makes in order to contribute to the reflections on the political dimension of feminist struggles.
