Novas hipóteses sobre a debucalização de /s/ no português brasileiro

Abstract

Debuccalization is a phonological process characterized by the loss of supraglottal articulation and preservation of the open glottis gesture. In an autosegmental approach, it is characterized through delinking of the Place node. The segment loses its oral tract features and is produced in the glotal region as [h] or [P]. This squib describes and analyzes the occurrence of debuccalization in Brazilian Portuguese under an Autosegmental Phonology approach. The initial data set was obtained from descriptive literature. It was possible to observe that although debuccalization occurs mostly in syllabic coda, sometimes affecting exclusively the unvoiced fricative /s/ in this position, the environments in which the process
occurs are heterogeneous. Therefore, we suggest that it is the feature [+spread] in the segment itself that is responsible for triggering the process. After the reflection, data from Fortaleza city remains for future research, since in this dialect voiced fricatives (/v/, /Z/ e /z/) are also affected.
