Abstract

Abstract: This essay intends to analyze the short stories The girl from the twisted future and The day that Mabata-bata exploded, by the acclaimed Mozambican writer Mia Couto. Appears like a problem to show how the reflection on modern tragedy, or rather, the spirit of the tragic, is represented in postcolonial literature, understood here as all literary production inserted in the context of the culture of the former colonies in a way general and, in particular, the Mozambican literature. It seeks to show that the grief linked to the action and its consequences continue to mark the genre, even though it is no longer a classic tragedy, but that, however, the texts with a tragic nature continue to show how human conflicts remain the same. From the analysis of the short stories, it was possible to observe that the anguish linked to reflection and the possibility of a tragic life permeates the writing of these narratives and the socio-historical context of Mozambique. For that, we anchor ourselves in the theoretical assumptions of Raymond Williams (2002), Mauro Pergaminik Meiches (2000), Lígia Militz da Costa (1992).
