This article analyses the novels Robinson Crusoe and Mosquito Coast ”“one of whose intertexts is precisely Defoe's work”“ on the basis of their condition as “beginning narratives”, that is, texts that deal with the journey to a “wild” environment ”“which is postulated as “primeval””“ by a character or group coming from “civilization”. The study of the relationships and actions carried out by the characters in and through their contact with the primitive allows us to shed light on the variations and continuities between the works of Defoe and Theroux.
