Abstract

With reminiscences of the vast mythology analyzed by JRR Tolkien, together with one created exclusively by him, The Middle-Earth, an environment where the plot The Lord of the Rings takes place, is also home to a vast legion of monsters and varied characters, created and / or reinvented in that literary scope. With this work, we aim to analyze the composition of one of the most striking figures in the saga: The Gollum, being a mirror of duplicity and thus a frontier element between the human and the monster, in a linearity of good and evil that runs through the fantastic milieu. theoretically and geographically. In this way, we aim to analyze this character from the mythical and topoanalytic perspectives, aiming at the spaces inhabited by the character as inducing elements in the composition of his characteristic personality, in addition to referencing his acts to the Doppelgänger's reports. Regarding the Double, we will look at the spatial relationships that reflect the conflicting behavior between the supernatural manifestation Gollum / Smeagol, as well as the relationship between being / object in which we will place the One Ring of power as the characteristic mythical theory of Kolossós, being this also a double of the character.

    Doutor em Literatura Comparada pela Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (2008), Mestre em Literaturas de Língua Inglesa pela Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (2003), Especialista em Educação a Distância pelo SENAI-RJ (2003), Especialista em Literaturas de Língua Inglesa (2000), Bacharel e Licenciado em Língua Inglesa e Literaturas Correspondentes (1998) pela Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro. Desde 2009 atua como Professor Associado de Língua Inglesa e Literaturas de Língua Inglesa da Unidade Acadêmica Especial de Letras e Linguística da Universidade Federal de Goiás - Regional Catalão, onde também é Professor permanente do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Estudos da Linguagem da RC/UFG. É membro fundador dos Grupos de Pesquisa ESTUDOS DO GÓTICO (CNPq) e NÓS DO INSÓLITO: VERTENTES DA FICÇÃO, DA TEORIA E DA CRÍTICA (CNPq) que reúnem pesquisadores e pesquisadoras de diversas universidades do Brasil. É autor do livro LITERATURA INGLESA PARA BRASILEIROS: curso completo de literatura e cultura inglesa para brasileiros (2005), pela editora Ciência Moderna e organizador de outros títulos. Suas pesquisas se concentram nas áreas das Literaturas de Língua Inglesa e da Literatura Fantástica.
