Abstract

Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) has been widely used in the rehabilitation of patients with spinal cord injuries or stroke sequelae. Among its applications, FES-Cycling stands out as an effective modality for neuromuscular recovery, offering benefits such as improved blood circulation, reduced fatigue, and increased muscle strength. However, the efficiency of FES-Cycling depends on the precise adjustment of electrical parameters and real-time modulation of stimulation. This article explores control strategies used to optimize the application of FES in adaptive cycling. The goal is to allow better adaptation to the patient’s physiological changes, reducing the need for manual adjustments. The proposed approach aims to provide a more efficient solution, less dependent on complex calibrations, thereby making FES-Cycling more accessible and effective for neuromuscular rehabilitation.
