Diabetes Mellitus (DM) represents a global epidemic, impacting public health and quality of life. The educational approach to DM appears to be an alternative to improving clinical management. The objective is to present the initial data from the randomized clinical trial The Diabetes Care (D-CARE) Study, referring to the sociodemographic profile and the results of instruments for assessing psychological and attitudinal factors. Randomized, parallel, phase III clinical trial, with an allocation ratio of 1:1, lasting 6 months, with primary outcome HbA1c (%) between groups, at the end of 6 months. This work is a cross-section of the initial sample of the RCT described previously. It is notable that 66.2% had some degree of depression and 71.7% had anxiety. Assessments using the WHOQOL-Bref instrument indicated a need for improvement in the physical and health satisfaction domains. Despite satisfactory knowledge about DM, the attitudes questionnaire revealed that 89.6% maintained a negative attitude towards the disease. The IPAQ questionnaire showed that 59.5% were physically active, while 38.6% were irregularly active or sedentary. This initial data provides important insights for future diabetes intervention and education strategies, highlighting critical areas for improvement such as mental health and attitudes.
