Abstract

In this article I intend to verify the possibilities of analysis that arise from the analysis of the different scales of production and consumption of energy resources today from a geopolitical perspective. To this end, the main facets of the relationship between territory and power that influence state perceptions regarding energy are initially outlined: geopolitics, geostrategy and geoeconomics. These facets are considered as a discursive continuum related to the state's capacity for action in geographic space, which raises the question of the scale of energy and its scope in geopolitics. I then proceed to analyse the geographicity of different aspects related to the issue of energy: (i) the sphere of consumption and production; (ii) the connection between production and consumption, involving logistics; (iii) the prospecting of resources and new uses of energy in societies; and (iv) the challenges represented by the extraction of energy resources. Having completed this path, the theoretical-methodological balance is presented through the discussion of the relationship between geography and energy. The need to reflect in terms of complexity is emphasized, as well as the possibility of outlining new interpretative schemes that enrich the analysis of the relationship between geography and energy as important elements for understanding disputes on an international scale.
