In this state of the art a comparison is made between the development of the Anglo-Nordic historiography of cinema versus the historiography of cinema in Latin America. The first part of the work addresses the debates that question methodologies, approaches and results of the Anglo-Saxon historiography of cinema and that culminate with the publication of The Routledge companion to new cinema history (Biltereyst, Maltby, and Meers 2019). The second part is devoted to reviewing the development of the historiography of cinema in Latin America until the appearance of the text Tradition and modernity in Latin American cinema (Paranaguá 2003) and its influence on studies and research in the region. Some works are presented below that give an idea of the various paths and lines of research in vogue within the most recent historiography of cinema in Latin America.
