Abstract

Timeline digital acarte 1984-1989 is a digital interface where you can access the activity of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation's acarte Service between 1984 and 1989, and was designed and built in the context of the no aleph PhD research for a look at the Service Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation awards between 1984 and 1989 (Honorable Mention Mário Soares Award 2016). This dual research, composed by the digital interface and the thesis itself, focuses on the performative role of the Museums of Modern Art, focusing on the cultural transformations that Portugal goes through after its entrance into the European Union ”“ and the way they find themselves in the body a particular means of expression.

This paper briefly presents this interface, which is argued to be a 'tool of the common' because, by opening the archive of this Service for future studies, it enables a look at these cultural transformations seen from the privileged place of the first museum of modern art in a country where modernity and postmodernity intersect. It also defends the notion of 'Missing Curatorship' to characterize Madalena Perdigão's action as Director of this Service, possibly proposing a look at the Institutions from a point of view not of public or private, but of the ordinary.
