Resumo

O trabalho investiga a tentativa de promoção de uma reforma do Sistema Monetário Internacional (SMI), discutida em um fórum ad hoc (C20). As negociações ocorrem em um período turbulento, que se segue à suspensão da conversibilidade ouro/dólar, em 1971. Argumenta-se que, entre 1971 e fins de 1973, o governo norte-americano estava aberto a negociar elementos da operação do SMI com os aliados. Em seguida, observa-se o predomínio de decisões unilaterais.
